Memories of Love Returned: The Life and Work of Ugandan Photographer Kibaate Aloysius Ssalongo
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine recently completed filming on Ron Howard’s feature film Alone at Dawn.Mwine's documentary feature "Memories of Love Returned," was named one of the "Ten Best African Documentaries of 2024" by OkayAfrica. It has also earned multiple accolades, including the Audience Award for Best Feature Documentary at the Pan African Festival.
While working as an actor in Hollywood, Mwine simultaneously undertook a two-decade-long journalistic investigation centered on Ugandan photographer, Kibaate Aloysius Saalongo. Through extensive archival research, in-depth interviews, and sustained evidence-gathering, the project culminated into a feature documentary that examines a Ugandan small town through the intersecting perspectives of the photographer’s family and the many individuals who sat in his studio.
