How Something Comes from Nothing: Inside the Artist Mind
Location
Yale School of Art
353 Crown St. Room C220
Free and open to the public.
A multimedia “reading” of Adam Moss’s book The Work of Art will explore the creative journeys— from first impulses to final iterations—of works by artists such as Stephen Sondheim, Louise Glück, Tony Kushner, Amy Sillman, Sofia Coppola, Moses Sumney, and others. The presentation delves into the phases of art-making—inspiration, doubt, frustration, and breakthrough—through the artists’ own words, artifacts of their struggles, and songs and clips showcasing the (fabulous) fruits of their labor. The presentation will be followed by a conversation with Maria de Los Angeles, a contributor to the book, covering topics such as how art should be taught, the process of creating a book that challenges traditional design and storytelling, and the pitfalls of art-speak.
